My Reactions to a 'Phantom of the Opera' article

Click here if you want to read the article I'm talking about. It really took me on an emotional rollercoaster!

  • What?! A Phantom of the Opera TV adaptation?! OMG, really?! There hasn't been a POTO adaptation for TV in over 20 years! Will it be Leroux faithful? Yay!
  • Wait, what... it's going to be set in "the sexy and cutthroat world of the modern-day music business?" Well that lost me right there!

-_- Really?! The setting REALLY!? (sorry this is my thought process so appologies for any wierdness!)

I agree with you there! They should totally do a *rubs hands in glee* webseries! :D

Please don't publish my second comment, but please do read it :D

Ha ha! I'd be okay with a modern day adaptation provided it was still set in an opera house but the article has given me the strong impression that Christine is going to be a pop star and that they're really going to sex this one up.

Actually there has been a Phantom web series called Notes by Christine. I wasn't all that impressed but maybe you'd like it.

Yeah that was kinda my impression too, which is SUCH a shame! ah well, we have to wait and see.

I agree, Hannah-- I'd love to see a modern day adaptation (and I tried Notes by Christine too and didn't like it) but I would want to see the story of a young singer trying to make it in opera with nontraditional training. That would be really cool-- and the music would, y'know, be true to the original novel's premise. :D (WITH A BLONDE CHRISTINE.)

I had pretty much the same reaction you did.

Reads first point. "Yay!"

Reads second point. "Oh."

Ah well. There's an animated version coming out in a couple years that looks like it will be very Leroux faithful.

Miss Dashwood - Hey! Yes that WOULD be really cool and I would love to nice to see a blonde Christine *sigh* There are three POTO adaptations that I want in the future:

1. A Leroux faithful BBC miniseries

2. A new screen adaptation of the ALW musical. I'm nowhere near as desperate for this as I used to be though because of the pure brilliance of the 25th anniversary concert :)

3. A Disney version. Disney have done similar stories to POTO in the past (Beauty and the Beast & The Hunchback of Notre Dame) so I genuinely think that a Disney take on POTO could be wonderful. Plus, think of all of the POTO merchandise we could buy!

Any thoughts? :)

Nicki T - Hi! And wait, hold up, there's a potentially Leroux faithful animated version in the works??? How exciting!

Evelyn - I can see myself watching the pilot episode and cackling away at it if it's bad, which I think it will be.
